The number 12 indicates the firearm’s gauge and 70 refers to the nominal length of the cartridge case in millimeters. The cartridge can be used in a 12 gauge firearm with a chamber marked at least 70 mm, and where the manufacturer permits such ammunition. What is the pellet diameter in this variant? The V101772 cartridge uses 3.50 mm lead shot. Other sizes shown on the manufacturer’s general page belong to separate product variants. What does 32 g mean? This indicates the total mass of the shot inside the cartridge, not the weight of a single pellet or the whole cartridge. A 32-gram load of medium weight is a common choice among 12 gauge hunting cartridges. What is the difference between 3.50 mm and 2.75 mm shot? Larger 3.50 mm shot generally retains individual pellet energy better, but fewer pellets fit into the same 32-gram load. Smaller shot provides more hits and can form a denser shot pattern. Is this a steel shot cartridge? No. S&B Corona uses lead shot. When using lead shot, you must comply with current hunting, shooting range, and environmental regulations. In areas where lead shot is not allowed, you must choose a suitable steel or other lead-free load. Is this cartridge suitable for clay target shooting? The cartridge can only be used if the shooting range rules allow a 32-gram lead shot load, but 3.50 mm shot is not optimal for typical clay target shooting. For training and competitions, a 24 or 28-gram sport cartridge with smaller shot is more suitable. Which choke should be used? There is no universally suitable choke. Shot pattern density depends on the barrel, choke, cartridge, and shooting distance. The right combination should be confirmed on a large paper target, following the instructions of the firearm and choke manufacturer. When is S&B Corona 12/70 32 g the right choice? This variant is suitable for hunters who want a versatile 32-gram hunting load for a 12 gauge firearm and prefer 3.50 mm lead shot. Larger shot retains individual pellet energy better but produces a sparser shot pattern compared to 2.75 or 3.00 mm shot. If you need a denser pattern or are hunting smaller game, choose a Corona variant with smaller shot. For clay target shooting, a 24 or 28-gram sport cartridge is more practical, and in areas with lead shot restrictions, use a suitable lead-free load. Expert recommendation Before hunting, check the cartridge’s shot pattern on a large paper target at your usual shooting distance. Test with the same barrel and choke you plan to use in the field, and check both the point of impact and shot distribution across the aiming area. Do not choose shot size based only on the game species. Take into account shooting distance, shot pattern density, choke, and current hunting regulations. Before use, ensure that your firearm’s chamber marking matches the cartridge and that lead shot use is permitted in the area. 32-gram hunting cartridge with 3.50 mm lead shot S&B Corona 12/70 combines a 32-gram lead shot load, 3.50 mm pellets, and V2 velocity of 385 m/s.
